Soft wash and pressure washing are often confused, but they are fundamentally different methods. Pressure washing uses force. Soft washing uses chemistry. The surface decides which is correct — and choosing the wrong one can cause permanent damage.
Pressure washing uses high-pressure water (2000-4000+ PSI) to physically blast dirt, grime, and growth off a surface. It is effective on durable materials like concrete, brick, and masonry.
On roofs, siding, painted surfaces, and softer materials, high pressure causes damage: stripped shingle granules, etched stucco, forced water behind siding, and stripped paint.
Soft washing uses low-pressure application (40-80 PSI, similar to a garden hose) combined with treatment solutions that kill biological growth at the source. The chemistry does the work — not the force.
After treatment, the growth dies and releases through natural weathering. No scrubbing. No scraping. No surface damage.
If the surface is concrete, masonry, or durable stone — pressure washing may be appropriate.
If the surface is a roof, siding, stucco, painted wood, vinyl, or cedar — soft washing is the correct method. The surface decides.
