Lichen roof treatment addresses the flat, crusty growth that bonds tightly to roof surfaces across Greater Victoria. Lichen is a symbiotic organism — part fungus, part algae — that anchors to the minerals in shingles and roofing materials. It can appear grey, white, orange, yellow, or green.
Unlike moss, which sits on top of the surface, lichen bonds at the chemical level to the minerals in shingles. Scraping or picking it off pulls granules and surface material with it, causing permanent damage.
Lichen often coexists with moss on the same roof. It is particularly stubborn and requires longer dwell time for the treatment to penetrate and break the bond.
PRECISION OVER PRESSURE.
Lichen treatment requires patience. The solution is applied at low pressure and allowed to dwell — giving the chemistry time to break the bond between the organism and the surface.
After treatment, lichen progressively weakens, dries, and releases through weather exposure. Heavier lichen growth may require more time or a follow-up application. No scraping. No wire brushes. No high pressure.
